Family Shopping List - User Guide

Welcome to Family Shopping List! This application helps you organize your grocery shopping efficiently by managing items, stores, and categories. This guide will help you master all the features of the app.

🚀 Getting Started

When you first open the app, it will be pre-loaded with some sample categories to help you get started. The app is divided into four main tabs located at the bottom of the screen:

  1. Shopping: Your active list of things to buy.
  2. Items: Your master database of all products you buy regularly.
  3. Stores: The places where you shop.
  4. Settings: App configuration and sharing options.

🛒 Using the Shopping List

The Shopping tab is your main view while you are at the store. It displays only the items you currently need to buy.

Navigating the List

Items are automatically grouped by Store. This means you can see everything you need to buy at "Grocery Store A" separately from "Hardware Store B".

  • Collapse/Expand Groups: Tap on a store header (e.g., "SUPERMARKET") to hide or show items for that store. Use this to focus on the store you are currently in.

Checking off Items

As you pick up items in the store:

Tap the item in your list.

The item will disappear from your "active" list, meaning it is marked as purchased.
Tip: Don't worry, the item isn't deleted! It's just moved to your history so you can easily add it back next time you need it.

📦 Managing Items

The Items tab is where you manage your product catalog. This contains everything you ever buy.

Adding a New Item

Tap the + button at the bottom right.

Enter the Item Name (e.g., "Milk").

Select a Category (e.g., "Dairy").

Select a Store (optional, but recommended for sorting).

Tap Create Item.

Active vs. History

You will see a cart icon 🛒 next to each item:

  • Blue Cart: The item is on your active shopping list.
  • Grey/Empty Cart: The item is in history (you already have it). Tap it to add it back to your active list.

Editing and Deleting

  • Edit: Tap on an item or click the edit icon to change its name, category, or store.
  • Delete: Swipe an item to the left and click the delete icon 🗑️ to remove it permanently.

🏪 Organizing Stores

The Stores tab lets you configure where you shop.

Creating a Store

Tap the + button, enter a name (e.g., "Bakery"), and pick a color. This color will appear next to items in your shopping list to help you identify them quickly.

Reordering Stores

You can change the order in which stores appear in your shopping list. This is useful if you always visit stores in a specific order.

In the Stores list, use the Up (⬆️) and Down (⬇️) arrows next to a store.

Move the store to your desired position. Your Shopping List will automatically reflect this new order.

⚙️ Settings

Customize your experience in the Settings tab.

  • Language: Switch between English and French.
  • Categories: Add your own custom categories or delete existing ones to fit your needs.
  • Legal: View our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
  • Reset Database: ⚠️ Warning: This option deletes ALL your data (items, stores, categories). Use with caution!

📤 Sharing Your List

You can easily share your entire configuration (Items, Stores, Categories) with a family member so you both have the same list.

On the Source Device (Your Phone)

Go to Settings > Share List.

Tap Show QR Code. A unique code will appear on your screen.

On the Target Device (Family Member's Phone)

Ensure they have the app installed.

Go to Settings > Share List.

Tap Scan QR Code and point the camera at your screen.

Confirm the import. Their app will now have all your items and stores!
